How much do you charge?
I have met many people who have found it difficult to get a price upfront for accounting or tax services and I realize that it is an uncomfortable feeling not knowing if you are going to be surprised by the bill. That is why I do my best to give quotes upfront when asked and provide general guidance on what will be done and give a range for a fee. For larger projects, this may be done using and engagement letter. No this has nothing to do with marriage – it is just an agreement upfront on what will be done, when, and at approximately what price. The general framework for my quotes in 2023 are as follows:
For data entry, and routine staff accounting services: $55 an hour
S Corporations under $250,000 in revenue or assets in one state: $500
S Corporations over $250,000 in revenue or assets in one state: $800
Partnerships under $250,000 in revenue and under $1 million in assets in one state: $500
Partnerships over $250,000 in revenue and over $1 million in assets in one state: $800
For tax preparation outside of fixed price services, tax planning, consultation, and other CPA services: $200 an hour
There are no additional charges beyond the time-based fee unless agreed upon. That means no e-filing surcharge. I do not provide an advance refund or deduct my fees from refunds so there are no charges relating to that.
What is your typical bill for simple taxes?
The minimum fee for individual tax preparation is $150. Sole proprietors with expenses add a minimum of $100. Rentals and additional forms are further charges.
What should I do if I am ready for you to do my taxes?
The first step is for me to establish a portal we can use to securely share documents. That’s all I need is an e-mail address. There are other methods we can use if that is more convenient.
Are you available year round?
Yes I work year round and provide tax services and support all year.
Do you handle back taxes?
Yes, this is more common than you may think so don’t be afraid to come in if you haven’t filed for a while. I have experience handling all sorts of back tax situations.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Most of my clients do not schedule appointments because the tax preparation is done electronically. However, we can still schedule a video conference. You can mail, fax, or scan and upload to a web portal. If the information is not sensitive, you can also text a picture of it or e-mail it.
Regardless, if you are a new customer, please provide your prior year tax returns and all the tax forms you have received in the mail. I give all my clients a tax organizer with a checklist to help identify documents and issues they may forget to provide.
If you are self-employed or own a business, there can be a lot involved. If you use QuickBooks or another accounting program, I will be working with your data file so we will need to coordinate that exchange. If you haven’t done your bookkeeping we will likely need to do that first. From there I will look at what your situation is and ask questions and ask for records as appropriate. If you do not use a computer program for your records, you will need to provide your records as you have kept them and I will go from there.
